Potch: Who are we ?

So. We launched nearly 2 weeks ago. Who are we I hear you say ? We are Imogen and Stewart and we live in West Wales with our girls and the infamous Hattie the dog.

We all love where we are, beautiful countryside and beaches around us, and Hattie gives us the opportunity to get out and about to enjoy the outdoors.

Stewart and I have for years been working with some very vulnerable people and whilst we have really enjoyed this work we recently reached saturation point. Starting up Potch is our attempt to change the way we live and give us a better work life balance. We both like working together and particularly love working from home. We have two girls and those changes are already making a massive difference to how our family works.

Potch came about, as it does, after some chats, looking for an alternative way to be. Neither of us wanted to be part of mainstream retail sector, nor believed that this was a sustainable model. We wanted to create a business that not only made a difference to us but also made a difference to the producers and artisans. We both agreed we loved fair-trade, we believed that ethical choices could be a real part of making shopping choices and we love all things recycled, reusable, organic and sustainable products. Whilst we have bought many of these types of products before personally, they were often were too expensive for our average pockets, or unfortunately didn't have european design at their centre. We started thinking that with some thought and research that we could find products that broke these rules. That we could find beautiful kitchenware, gifts and decorative homeware products that could offer a real alternative to the mainstream market, where things are mass produced, that employ people on really bad terms. We started thinking that this fast fashion trend that had been going on for too long needed to be challenged.

We are happy to report that we have found some amazing suppliers to help us bring you a wide range of products for the home. We have recycled glass, fair-trade ceramics and sustainable mango wood. Organic bamboo utensils and bowls and recycled silver and brass jewellery. We have also been keen to celebrate traditional crafts, with blankets still woven on traditional looms and recycled, repurposed sari's into throws.

We have spent weeks and weeks getting this idea together, we have trawled through many places to find the right types of products that can sit alongside modern furniture and interior design. We have looked around the world and locally. We have worked hard to ensure that each artisan /suppliers ethical / fair-trade credentials are robust. We have built the site and are now online; we have a lot of work to do, to get ourselves out there and in peoples consciousness. We sincerely hope you like this, our Potch, our blend of ideas of all things ethical, fair-trade or locally produced. We will continue to develop these ideas and hope you will enjoy browsing.
